Devil 07 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 My system has me limited to AGP cards so my choices are in the x1650 and x1950Pro range. My current TV is limited to 720p and its hooked up with a 50 ft DVI cable. Is either of these video card classes going to make a difference in performance now or in the future when I get a projector and move up to 1080i. I think Cable Labs is gonna be a bigger thorn in my side than anything MS can come up with. Certify the "whole" PC?! Thats a load of garbage for just a CableCard. MC FLMJIG Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 My opinion. Are there any Nvidia AGP cards? They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better when it come to video. They have PureVideo and are much cooler and smaller. AMD currently has issues with HDCP as well. If not then the 1950 is much better. AMD currently has issues with HDCP as well. I didn't know they where having HDCP issues with AMD chips. My Vista DVR DIY quest may come to an early end. It's kinda pointless for me to continue this build if Cable Labs, Inc. won't certify an external device for me to connect to my homebuilt PC. I can kinda see where they are coming from with their reasoning for certifying a complete system, but it still sucks. A CableCard 2.0 may be why I buy a new PC for this Vista HD DVR ..(first time in many, many years) There are just too many companies putting a strangle hold on this stuff. ATI had some issues about cards that were supposedly HDCP but really weren't. Do your HW on this. I don't know but I doubt any 7800 r HDCP ready. Not to get the best picture, or the best sound, or the best performance - just to ensure that the protection schemes all agree with each other. What a sad world. It doesn't surprise me ATI has trouble with HDCP - ATI has trouble with everything. Ever try getting 1080p out of one of their cards but then adjusting for overscan? It's impossible without a third party program, and with a third party program you may have to boot up with a plain old VGA CRT to set the TV up.. sometimes every bootup, sometimes once a week. After a little bit of reading, I think one of the new 320MB GTS cards will work just fine for all my HD viewing. Maybe a bit of gaming too.
