Voltmod 7800GT ... what to expect

Recommended Posts

I only read about voltmoding 7900gt series nVidia cards.....does the same principle apply for the 7800gt series ?....what kind of a gain can one expect !?

I am currently doing 517/1250, stock volts obviously.........

let me know what you think, id love to pull out little bit more out of this vid card

Yes, you can voltmod the 7800GT. I have 2 eVGA 7800GT's and have successfully voltmodded them using NVidia Bios Editor and NVFlash. I upped the max voltage to each card from 1.4v to 1.55 and was able to up my cards from 450/1100 to 510/1250.

Here's a link to a thread over at Xtremesystems on the bios and volt mods:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=72857

and here is a link to VR-Zone that has the instructions, but I can't get the pics to come up?! http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=2656&s=1

I flashed the bioses on both my eVGA cards to get to 1.5v which resulted in 500mhz gpu, then added the var resistors to increase voltage to the GPU's. I have cranked the vgpu on both cards to 1.75v (watercooled) for a few 3DMark2006 runs and the GPU's clocked to around 590, but I run every day at 1.6v which gives me a clock speed of 550.

I tried the pencil mod for vmem, but was only able to reach 1215 which is where I keep for every day. I think the memory on one of my cards is pretty weak and limits my overclock since an sli set-up will run to the speeds of the slower card.

Here are the approximate 3DMark06 scores I have seen at different gpu speeds with my SLI set-up (obviously other system components will make a diff):

Stock 470/1100: 7500 - 7800

500/1200: 8000 - 8300

550/1250: 8400 - 8600

590/1300: 8700 - 8800
