  1. I will have to retract my statement regarding RAID0 performance on the 680i board. Below is a screenshot of HDTach with my current set-up. This performance is about the same as I had on my Expert board with these drives. I am almost positive that I had lower numbers when I first set-up my current rig, but I have since flashed bioses several times, re-installed Win XP with the latest RAID drivers, and RMA'd my original AR board for the A1. Not sure if you will see different results with SATAII drives. I have not flashed from the P26 to the P27 bios since the changes are for improved quad-core performance which I am not too concerned about at this time.

    8800GTX Length

I had an Expert board, Opty 170 @ 3.0Ghz, and two 7800GT's in SLI that maxed-out at just under 8,800 3dMark06. I am now running an E6700 @3.6Ghz and a single 8800GTX and max at 12,500. If you replace your two 7800GT's with a single 8800GTX, you will probably hit around 10,000 3DMarks - slightly CPU limited. With two 8800GTX's - you would be severely CPU limited and maybe hit 12,000.
  3. I have had a pretty good experience with the eVGA 680i board. Originally bought the AR version then went through the RMA process to get the A1. This took a little longer than I would have liked - like two weeks, but I am back up and running now. I haven't tried other C2D boards, so I can not compare. However, I can tell you that it was fairly easy to overclock, requiring good cooling on the proc and nb. I upgraded from an Expert board with an Opty 170, and to be honest, there are times I miss my old 3Ghz SLI rig. Then I encode a few videos, do a little photoshop work, put in a couple hours of gaming, and I am glad I made the move. Below are the things I do not like about the board: Not much luck dropping the CPU multi to increase FSB - not sure if I would see performance gains anyways Vdroop - but that seems to be common on most C2D boards No NB temp monitoring except in bios RAID0 Performance - it was better on the nf4 boards Not as much fun tweaking - It did not take much effort to get stable at 3.6Ghz, but it seems like no matter what I can't tweak much more out of it When the DFI 680i board comes out and hopefully addresses some of the above issues, I will most likely go with it and retire the EVGA board. Anyway you go, I think you will like the noticeable performance boost you get. Cheers

  5. I have been running two Raptors in RAID 0 for a couple weeks now and no data corruption. I flashed to bios p24 before installing windows and my board has been running great.

    C2D Motherboard Advice

I am building my first Conroe rig. Here are the parts I currently have: C2D E6700 2 Gigs G.Skill DDR2 800 Model F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ OCZ Powerstream 520W 2X EVGA 7800GT 256mb PCI-E 2X WD Raptor 74GB - RAID0 Liteon DVD/RW w/ Litescribe 1/2" Watercooling: Storm rev2, Maze4 GPU Blocks, D5 Pump, PA120.2 Rad I am leaning towards a 680i board, but may pick up a single 8800GTX card soon so I would not rule out other boards - mainly looking for one that would allow me to hit a decent, stable, overclock - maybe around 3.6Ghz. Any recommendations are welcome, especially if you have actual experience with a board.
