Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I'm just cooling on air with Artic Silver Ceramique, and a ThermalTake Silent 939 HSF: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/product/cool...00/cl-p0200.asp Well I had it pushed to 1.52 volts and running at 2660 and the temps where 96F on the CPU, so that is really cool. This grease and HSF really run nice together and for air this thing is not hot at all. Beyond the idea of heat which I understand I just didn't know by, "Numbers" how well the CPU can handle additional volts. If all we are saying is you can push volts as long as you keep it cool then I guess at only running 98F I still have quite a bit of head room to go. Without having to take the CPU out the mobo, is there a way with the retail box too look up the stepping? I'm trying to get 2.8 out of this thing, but so far all it seems to go is 2660 with the FSB at 250, multi at 10.x and the volts at 1.50 - 1.52 Even if I have one of the crappier steppings how far can you push the volts as long as you keep it cool? THANKS
Praz Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 The only way to find the stepping is to read it off of the IHS. The heatsink will have to come off.
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 These settings where as far as I could push it: FSB 250 Multi 10.5 Volts: 1.50 - 1.52 With those settings I'm sure this isn't a great stepping and no need to rip it apart to look otherwise I would of been able to push it further. So at this point I guess all I need to understand is the volts, as long as I keep it cool how much can you push Volts on air?

THANKS do you have your ram on a divider? if u are running 1:1 with ram, thats probably ur problem.
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I have the ram on Auto, which gives me: 2.5-3-3-
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I changed the ram to DDR333 CPU Multi = 9x DRAM Frequency = DDR333 HTT/FSB = 270 With these setting it wouldn't boot.
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Can the volts really be cranked to like 1.7 as long as it keeps cool it won't hurt it? I wonder if the Artic Silver Ceramique, and a ThermalTake Silent 939 HSF will keep it cool enough? I'd imagine the way it has been running so far that with those volts it won't go over 115F. Any thoughts on the higher volts? THANKS

Any thoughts on the higher volts? THANKS You could, yes, but I would strongly advise you not to! I've been over 1.7V myself(with water cooling), and it rarely brings you any further. In the long run it's not good for your cpu either...
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Ok I guess I got a crap CPU then. I can't believe all I can get out of this thing is 2.66ghz What's really the norm to stay within for Volts? 1.46-1.48? Is going 1.50-1.52 bad? THANKS

THANKS For 24/7 use I try to keep under 1.55V, but anything under 1.6V is fine as long as the temps are low.
wardog Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I changed the ram to DDR333 CPU Multi = 9x DRAM Frequency = DDR333 HTT/FSB = 270 With these setting it wouldn't boot. OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K? I have that ram, lots of it. At the above settings your at 220 for the ram, about as high as I've found it to operate stabily. Concerning your voltage to the 150. 1.5? Phew dude. I've got a boatload of OEM 150's, all of them are CABGE and none have taken anywhere near that to hit 2.6. I've just put one in an Ultra-D and beginning to play with it. YMMV with whatever stepping you have but my CABGE's aren't notorious OC'ers. Try these for a starting point. It's where I'm at at the moment with mine: CPU at 2520 and ram at 210 CPU Voltage = 1.35 DRAM Voltage = 2.6 (or try 2.7) CPU Multi = 12x DRAM Frequency = DDR400 (1:1) HTT/FSB = 210 And manually set ram timings in BIOS
Guest DasFox Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 - wardog - THANKS MAN! Say you wouldn't mind selling one of those Optys would you? That's the good stepping yeah, CABGE? Or where can I find these OEM? THANKS
