Sigurd Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I just installed the Noctua NC-U6 chipset cooler on my expert board. The temps went down a bit, especially on load, and no more noisy fan . Here are some pictures. http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf2381hb4.jpg http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf2383kv1.jpg http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf2384lx2.jpg http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf2386mh2.jpg Decent amount of room around the chipset, enough for another PCI-E card and a long video card. I'm pretty happy, and I almost got the Thermalright HR-05-SLI :eek2:! This one was cheaper and in stock, so I got it instead. I think HR-05 or NC-U6 are better for the expert board than the HR-05-SLI if your video card allows it. Sigurd Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Has anyone tried to compare this cooler to the Thermalright HR-05? I'm interested in which one provides better performance.
WintersFury Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 How close to your card is that thing? Looks like it's almost touching the stuff sticking off of it? Also where did you find it? As I'm looking for some of the new Noctua 120mm fans and haven't been able to find any Noctua products besides two cpu HSF's for sale in anywhere that'll ship to the US (Many Canadian places do so I figure I might have a chance) Edit:: How did it manage to go down in temp when you were runing at load... Now that just doesn't make sence...
Sigurd Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 How close to your card is that thing? Looks like it's almost touching the stuff sticking off of it? There is more than 1 cm of clearance between the heatsink and card, which is pretty good in my books. Also where did you find it? I am from Canada and got the Noctua heatsink plus two 120mm fans (1200rpm and 800rpm) from NCIX. Edit:: How did it manage to go down in temp when you were runing at load... Now that just doesn't make sence... I guess all the fans are temperature controlled. When the system is idle, hardly any fans are running, and the ones that are, run very slowly. At load the fans speed up a bit and others turn on, which provides better airflow and reduces temperatures of passively cooled devices. HITandRUN Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Do you guys think this would work with a 8800GTS or a GTX card since these cards are longer and higher?
Sigurd Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Do you guys think this would work with a 8800GTS or a GTX card since these cards are longer and higher? I don't think it'll fit on a 8800 card because of the fan location on the card. Maybe if you change the stock cooler to something else, it'll fit. The HR-05-SLI might work for you, though. Redbeaver Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 nice! i got a JingTing for my Expert and it fits. load chipset at 34C. unless the probe is lying lol idle at 32. the noctua is nice, but since i mod my 7900GT wit the AC Silencer, it wont fit in my case
Sigurd Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 How loud is the JingTing? Or are you running it passively?
Redbeaver Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 full speed. extremely extremely quiet. or i can say its just dead silent. if i run it by itself, i can only hear it when i put my ear within 5', and i have good hearing. Sigurd Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 What kind of orientation do you have it in? It seems like it won't fit without blocking something (2nd video card, PCIe, CPU cooler, SATA ports, etc).
Redbeaver Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 gawd i wish i have a picture... but... ok, lets see,the mobo is upside down on my case, and its currently facing lower left. reason being: - straight left: block nvidia raid SATA - straight down: block my huge BT and other connection - straight left: block my big AC silencer5 on the 1st VGA - straight up: block the AC on the 2nd VGA on SLI.... so i went left, but then a little downwards just enough to have enough space for the 2 left-side SATA ports. clears the port, clear the CPU, clears the VGA, air intake from the from, blow it to the AC silencer. perfect
