sidpaul Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Is it possible or do i have to stick with the sata1(150gb/sec) ???
Critical_Impact Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 No I believe its a limitation of the physical controller so no unless you got a sata 2 pci card (which would be pointless as you'd hit the limit on the pci slot anyway) the only way to get sata 2 is upgrade the board or go nforce4(probably more than your willing to do). soundx98 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 SATA 3.0 drives will work just fine. Just not at max speed.
wevsspot Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 And if your drive requires a physical jumper for the transfer rate then make sure to move the jumper to the appropriate pins to limit the hdd to 1.5gb/s
Maarek_Stele Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Got a wd caviar se16 sata II running fine jumpered for sata I. Never tested it unjumpered, it's not very smart to risk data.
chapas Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 My WD SATA2 HDD is working without a jumper. For what I read, only some chipsets (VIA for example) require the jumper for proper operation. Don't worry about SATA2, since there's no HDD capable of speeds faster than 150MB/s (SATA1).
