Hepath Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Is this mobo enabled for SATA-II? I thought it was but just read an old post that pointed to a mod by THUNDA that enabled SATA-II? I just checked this mobo link but it's not clear as it states "SATA speed up to 3Gb/s" which I can't relate to the SATA-II drive specs. Please help a thicko: in other words if I buy a SATA-II drive it will it just work at a slower speed? Cheers!
yfital Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 i aint sure myself, so i wont mislead you. but, sata1 and sata2's speed is the same. unless you use something like a 4hdd raid. so no, if you just use HDDs Plainily (not raid) sata1 and sata2 wont do any difference... KimTjik Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 A quotation from DFI: Serial ATA with RAID # Four Serial ATA ports # SATA speed up to 3Gb/s # RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1 # NVIDIA RAID allows RAID arrays spanning across Serial ATA and Parallel ATA 3Gb/s transfer rate is the spec for SATA II, so yes your board does support it. MiG Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Yes it supports it fine. Be sure to use the DFI ports and not the ones from the Silicon Raid ?
Hepath Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Thanks for the quick replies! Its always nice to have confirmed what you think is correct Can you just confirm what you mean by the "Silicon raid ports" ?
yfital Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 you have 8 ports, 4 black, 4 red. in the 4 are the nv's and the other are the sil, refer to your manual, look on the mobo itself, or well, on the expert, the 4 black are the nvidia, i guess its the same on yours, just use them. Hepath Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ah I gotcha - not being the RAID model I guess I dont have them as the board has nothing there! So by definition the only slots must be NVIDIA
