Dirk Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I'm looking into buying a PCIEx1 interface device. If the card is too long and interferes with the chipset fan, can it be used in the PCIEx4 slot?
Daddyjaxx Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 If the 16x video cards don't have problems with the chipset, no 1x card is gonna.
madu Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 There are differences.. the x16 usually means the interface size. But x16 vid cards can run at x8 or maybe x2 "speeds".. but it needs the x16 slot.. But x1 or x4 have smaller interfaces.. they connect to smaller slots as you can see on the mobo.. I think you can *INSERT * a x1 card to x4 slot, but I am not sure if you can use it... Hmmm..never thought about that...lets see what others have to say..
vegaxx2kx Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Yes, you can use a 1X device in a 4X slot, I personally have a 1X RAID Card running in my 4X slot you could even run in a x16 slot if you wanted to. Just remember smaller X cards will run in larger X card slots but not the other way around, and they will still only run at 1X no matter what slot they are in. Hope this helps! Oceanborn Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Just be careful not to move the jumpers to SLI position cuz if you do it disables the 1x slot
