Ok so I was running mandrake linux 10.1 on an old p3 system. after I had some problems with it and destoyed the install I decided to change to windows 2000 server. But I cannot install it! ive formated the drive using the format tool from the windows cd and by using partition magic rescue disks but whenever I install 2000 it says I have another os allready on the hdd. it still copies the files but when I restart to finish the install I get an error saying "invalid partition table" ive formated it at least 10 times now and it wont install right. I dont understand how 2000 seems to know I used to have another os on the computer.

can anyone help me fix this?

Yep, you have to fix the mbr (master boot record), appearently when you wipped the drive it kept the partition table, now its looking for those partitions and they aren't there.

You don't need to keep reformatting it, as you probably know now. Just fix the table with fdisk -mbr (that has already been suggested)
