xibxang Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Hi all, First time poster here. I was just wondering. How come on the LAN Party nF4 Ultra-D, one of the ethernet ports seems to be made by Yukon Marvell, and the other being part of the nForce-4 chipset? I'm some what of a newbie to the more technical aspects of motherboard architecture, so please don't jump down my throat if I've asked something obvious, but is there a reason for having two different manufacturers? Could someone enlighten me?
MenionLeah Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 The nVidia ethernet controller comes standard on all nForce4 chipset motherboards. A lot of motherboard manufacturers throw on an additional controller - incase something happens to the nVidia one, or if you need two for some reason, looks good on a list of features, etc.
xibxang Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Yeah, I understand that's it's handy to have two ethernet controllers on one motherboard, but why does it have to be from two different manufacturers? Why not have 2 x nForce4 sockets?

xibxang Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Oh it's as simple as that? I was thinking it was for some impressive reason.
