Chum Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Just curious if I can use either of the 16x slots for my video card. I have a eVGA 7800GT and it is long enough to sit over top the chipset fan in the first slot. If I could move it to the second slot, it wouldn't block it much at all. So are they both full bandwidth? Appreciate the help, Chum
Chum Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Disregard - I just saw a blip in the FAQ that I missed my first time through. In case you're wondering, you can set both slots to be 8x, but not set the bottom slot to 16x. Chum
wevsspot Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 You are correct Chum. Setting the jumpers to dual card mode results in both PCIe slots running at X8.
DeWitt Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I also have the same problem but I have a waterblock on the chipset. So I have no way of using the top slot. Is there any other fix to get around having to run my X800PRO at 8x?

THunDA Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Chum.. you seemed to find your answer.. but please search next time before posting.. There is MANY threads about this already... There is even a thread where someone benched the differences from using a 8x slot and a 16x slot..
