IHS removed from sandie 3700+ 2.2

I must point out this whole process was scary as all get out. I used the blade from a disposable razor only the first time, and it did not want to come off. I bent numerous pins in the process but luckily straitened them out enough to go back in. I called it a night and was thankful it booted up.

The next night I used the same blade and floss for the corners, and I finally got the lid off. Man it was thicker than I thought it would be. Anyways I use a clip on cooler so I was to afraid to mount on top of the die. I put some compound on the die and inside of the IHS after cleaning both. Then I put the lid back on and reinstalled with the lid. Unfortunately, I do not see hardly any drop in my load temp. I am using 1.49vcore and my load temp reaches a peak of 58c

I suspect that my heat-sink is lapped poorly, and also that perhaps the lid is not totally flat. I would love to mount the cooler rite against the die. But as of yet I am still apprehensive as I am using Arctic cooler Pro64, which is a large clip on type of mount.

Did you do anything about the 2mm difference after removing the IHS

BTW: what are your temps?

the temps where the same though...but the cooler is more steady now...

temps is @ 40c load with 1.54vcore (bios read)

and 44c load with 1.6vcore (bios read)

My friend. I wasn't always this happy about my temps....

At first I had a AC Freezer64, and got 50c load on 1.5vcore (bios read).

Then I bought a Scythe Ninja, but still I got 50c load on same vcore.

Then I got mad and just cut the IHS, put the new Ninja cooler in, and booted up...

At first the temp was @ 45-47c load, but when the AS5 got "burned in" the temp dropped real nice :D

running on water my temp was 30c load :D, but im back on air now...

*edit* When I mount the cooler, it moves a lillte to the sides...so I just try to hold it steady with one hand, and mount the clips with the other hand...no problem at all...

and dont worry about crushing the core, you will not! only if you hit the cooler when its already mounted, maybe it will crush...think about the old AMD cpus...

The retention bracket that you modded for the 2mm. Was it the bracket that came on your board? If so how did you mod it?

It was the bracket that I got with the cooler, its not the same clips as the original...

There is 4 little nipples on the downside of the bracket, I just cut them on the tops to about ½ of the original length, and did the same with the 2 "skrew holes"... just used a sharp knife for the mod...

I'll try to find the thread I saw over at XS...

*edit* Sry m8, can't find the thread...But I thing you know what i mean, just take a look under the bracket, and you know what to cut...

Ok. I will have to pull my bracket off and see what I can do. Thanks

OT: doesn't your C3DGTO clock better on the core ? mine did 590 on stock cooling

I will have to try for more.

EDIT/update I clocked it @560/560 and went from 6200 3dmarks to 6700 WOW!

Thanks for the heads up bro. That almost takes away the pain from my high temps lol. :)

I mounted my cooler on top of the die without the IHS. But the clip did not have enough tension. So I had to put the IHS back on. I think I will get a bolt though cooler, as been suggested. I added another fan next to my cooler and peak load temps have dropped by 3c So my max prime temp is 57c instead of 60c. The average load is now 55c 53-57 At least a little better until I figure out how I am going to mount without the IHS.
