Ongoing problem with SLI-DR

Recommended Posts

Ever since my first instal, Ive been getting BSODS. Ran memtest86 and turned out fine. My chipset temp idles at 60°C and that seems a bit high. My core temp idles at 40°.

But another problem is that the chipset fan spins at 6000 rpm constantly. It is LOUD. By the way, in the BIOS I have set "Run fan at max speed" temp to about 70° but it still runs that fast.

Is there a chance something is wrong with the chipset itself?

These are the BSOD errors Ive been getting:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And one other I forgot to write down.

Here are the specs:

DFI LanParty nf4 SLI-DR

AMD64 3500+

eVGA 6600GT PCI-e

2x512 Corsair Value Select

Enermax Noisetaker 600w

Zalman 7700cu heatsink/fan

Sony combo drive

WD SE 160gb storage drive ATA

WD SE 120gb main drive ATA

Thanks.

Hello,

Are all 4 power connectors plugged into the board?

Corsair Value Select modules can be a problem, even if memtest passes.

What version do you have, the CL2.5 or CL3?

Set the memory voltage to 2.8v.

Please read and respect the forum rules and put your complete computer specs in your signature under "user cp" . Also include your bios version and specs of your psu, including brand name and watts. This information helps us to help you. Thank you.

Did you flash to offical 6/23 bios on dfi website? Did you try to up the vdimm a point, try 2.8v.

Running Memtest again finally gave me over 100 errors in less than 5 minutes.

Ok so that explains the BSODS... but why the noisy chipset fan/hot chipset temps?

Well, good for the memory, try upping the vdimm to 2.8v. Make sure the chipset is seated properly. Gently push against it to make sure it is making complete contact with the chipset.

Ok, bumped up voltage... just curious, what does that do?

I think its bios version 6.00

Venice core

CL2.5 on the Corsair ram

All 4 power connectors are in.

I suspect from your reply here that you haven't flashed the BIOS yet. The Phoenix Award BIOS is version 6.0, but the DFI BIOS that ships with the board dates from 2004. The Venice core CPUs require at least v310 because of changes to the processor instruction set that the Venice core added.

The latest BIOS upgrade can be downloaded from here and you should choose to download the exe file version. Insert a blank floppy in the drive and then run the exe file. It will format the floppy and then create a bootable disk which flashes the BIOS.

Leave the diskette in the drive and reboot. Factory default has the floppy drive as first boot device and hard drive second, so the flash program should commence on reboot. If it doesn't, then you'll need to go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence to "Removable" as first boot device with hard drive second.

The flash program is entirely automatic and requires no user intervention on your part. After the flash process terminates, go back into the BIOS and load "Optimized Defaults" (there's no need to clear CMOS).

If you're not going to install RAID, go into the GENIE BIOS and set "Sil 3114 SATA RAID" to Disabled. F10 to save & exit.
