Problems already with my new system

Hi, see sig for specs...

 

I just put this together after getting my 7800 in the post today and already its acting up...the computer posts and i can get into the BIOS, but when I go to install windows it sits on the screen that says "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration...". I set the first boot device to CD-ROM, but it freezes here

 

whats up with that?

#1, as per rules, I don't see the bios version in your sig for your motherboard. 5/10/2005 or later for San Diego support, 6/23 is the latest official version at the dfi.com.tw downloads page (see Critical Sticky thread for links)

this is with an older bios...a newer bios like the 6/23 will have a new option called

 

DRAM Response Time

 

 

set this to FAST

 

 

Also, i use the yellow slots only (with all types of memory, especially high voltage stuff like BH-5/VX), and I ONLY use the -2 version of bioses (right now a lot of us are using 6/23-2 or 7/04-2BT modified)

sorry, I don't know what the BIOS is yet.....003!?, thats what the driver disc says. I can't install that before installing windows right....I am yet to install windows...

 

also, i have the RAM in the orange slots so I will swap them over too

 

EDIT: lol, theres so many stickies around here its not funny :) , I went through and found all the SLI-DR stickies I could...but still theres more I see :P

had splash screen disabled

 

I edited the BIOS DRAM Timings etc... but it spat and reset itself to default...also the DRAM voltage control wouldn't go above 2.60v (thats with the RAM in the orange slots still). Will changing them into the yellow slots help this?

 

BIOS is 01/25/2005...does this need to be updated to the 05/10 version to work with the Sandy CPU?

 

can I install windows with the 01/25 BIOS?

That's probably what your problem is, the 1/25 BIOS.

 

Go ahead and upgrade to the latest official BIOS on the DFI website, and I would wager that would solver your problem.

The 3/10 version incorporates:

1. NVMM 4.85 and NV RAID 4.81.

2. Enhanced memory compatibility.

3. Enhanced USB Compatibility.

4. Enhanced the support of Athlon 64 in version E3(Venice), E4(San Diego).

 

and the 6/23 version incorporates everything above, as well as:

1. Patch Dual-Core CPU performance problem.

2. Add Errata 123 option.

3. Add ACPI SRAT option.

Go ahead and upgrade to the latest official BIOS on the DFI website, and I would wager that would solver your problem.

Dumb Q: how? I have no OS installed....

:) you don't need to have your OS installed to flash your BIOS. :)

 

You can do it any number of ways! I'll list 3 here:

1) floppy drive

2) CD-Rom drive

3) USB flash drive

 

I'll find a sticky on detailed info on how to flash your BIOS and post it here for you.

Place a floppy in the pc you are posting on then download the file N4D623-3.exe open the file it will create the boot floppy for you. Place the floppy in your DFI lanparty and then power up the computer. the flash will begin automatic. Press f1 when the bios software tells you too.

How to flash BIOS with Diamond Flash Image?

 

Diamond Flash Image is unique feature developed by DFI to facilitate users flashing BIOS. User does not have to run the complicated procedures, but just flash the BIOS as an easy job.

1. Prepare one piece of clean floppy diskette.

2. Run the BIOS file from website directly or copy it to HDD to run.

3. It will image to floppy disk drive "A" including flash utility, BIOS file along with instruction and create booting program automatically.

4. Boot up the system from FDD. It will automatically flash the BIOS.

5. Press "F1" as instructed when completing the flashing.

6. Run "Load Optimized Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults" in BIOS after completing the BIOS flashing.
