Any suggestions on a good motherboard and graphics card? I'm thinking about entering the realm of liquid cooling...not sure yet. The reviews on this site have been incredibly helpful so far! That memory is expensive for your intended usage. 1000w is overkill if you're not running some serious multiple video card configuration. You didn't specify a budget however, this shopping list is packed with great hardware and a very affordable price. Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV Formula CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Memory: OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Buy two of these if you require more than 4gb of memory. CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 6850 Great video card; supports 3D playback, very affordable, etc. SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 60gb These SSD are great. Get two of those and run them in a RAID 0 configuration for great performance. PSU: SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W This monster will handle anything this system can throw at it and last many years and even upgrades, etc.
bp9801 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Instead of buying two 4GB kits for $220 bucks, I'd rather you get this 8GB kit for $180. Having a ton of memory is key for the work the OP will be doing, 4GB is very easy to max out so pick up an 8GB kit and then you can buy another set for 16GB total if you need it.
