RDReavis1 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Okay, I'm looking for a mobo with the best chipset I can get. I have a magazine with reviews of chipsets that work with Athlon 64's. It reviews the NVidia nForce4 SLI, VIA K8T890 Pro, & SiS 756. I'm kind of lost as to what I should be looking for, as this is the first time I have considered a motherboard based on the chipset. What should I be looking for in terms of pci express lanes (graphics, north bridge and south bridge), RAM support, ATA support (SATA and PATA), and Interconnection speeds? Thanks! oblivescence Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 do you have a video card preference, Nvidia or Ati? cuz if you plan on trying out linux or using linux, nvidia rules, atleast till ati gets their drivers together. I dont really know much about chipsets, but you might want to consider that first.
RDReavis1 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Nvidia 7800GTX is what I'm hoping for
bigred Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 NF4 SLI chipset... if Nvidia is your choice of video cards. my suggestion from there is either DFI, MSI or Gigabyte. your hands will be slapped if you buy an asus or abit
RDReavis1 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Okay, I've rounded up some mobos, I think a few are asus, but I put them in there because they got good reviews in pcgamer magazine. But here they are none the less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCompa...&SubCategory=22 What do you think? Thanks!

danyo64 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 i think the msi would probably be the best choice for you. the bios is MUCH more user friendly, and it still overclocks pretty well if you want it to.
RDReavis1 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Which would OC the best? Thanks!
goyangfc Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 go with MSI. i have the same processor. i haven't tried OCing yet, but it works really well right now. the asus a8n-sli premium fried twice on me. literally, smoke came out from the motherboard on the first try. i'm never going with asus again.
