waterlou Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Ok - I've tried using the search function, and can't get anything to work. You guys embarassed me so bad on my last post (about my little FX 5500) that now I'm looking at an upgrade. The ATI 9600 Pro / XT w/ 256MB looks good. Any other recommendations? Looks like I can get a decent one for under $150 ... thoughts? Cheers - Jerome
PineBark Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Don't get a 256MB version, Just get a good brand 9600XT, theres no use of 256MB on a 9800XT, so why would you need so much ram on a 9600. It doesn't have enough power for 256MB to be usefull. The best bang for the buck would be a 6600GT, you could also get a 9800Pro, i would recommend these over a 9600XT. PineBark Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Youre right, they cost a little too much. I say to just get a 9600XT with 128MB of ram, Asus, i think, make good cards.
evanin Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 jerdubois don't feel bad about your card, I have a 5600 ultra I still use! If you can save up another $50 then a 9800 pro would amaze you, if not then then 9600xt will be ok.
cchalogamer Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Ok if it was me (which it's not) I would go fo ran early Christmas present and go out to compusa, and purchase a PNY 6800 regular. $230 + tax now and you get a $30 mail in rebate. The offer ends Saturday. granted, it's over $150, but It's what i would try and do. But if you must stay under $150 get a 9600XT, (i think best buy has been having the ATI one on sale for under $150 after rebates recently) I've already sold my 9600 pro, so i can't offer it to you lol, sold it for $75, and it was actually a very good card. sykocus Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 you can probably find a 9700 pro for under $150 on ebay, and i'm pretty sure it'll be out a 9600xt.

Ok - looking at the ATI site, it looks like the 9700 doesn't exactly sit between 9800 and 9600 ( as you would think). Is the 9600 the newer version of the 9700? Worth getting an AIW? Or just stick to XT or Pro?
