New Build: Replacing an 8 year computer!

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

General use with some gaming mixed in. I would love to do VR in the future. I build a new computer about every 5 years or so, so I go bigger than I probably need knowing that I won't be doing it again for awhile.

 

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

Good 1080P with the option in the future of going a little bigger. Smooth framerate capable of VR in the future.

 

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

I got the motherboard at Micro Center for the $30 off combo deal with the CPU. If you think I should get a different motherboard don't hesitate to speak up. I'm also completely open to changing out nearly all the parts if better options are available.

Solid build! The only thing I would switch out is the memory. I'm usually not a person to care for marketing strategies but the G.Skill Flare X series is made with AMD in mind. They all have Samsung B-Die and profiles that work out of the box for Ryzen. AMD has put a few updates up for board manufactures to make more memory compatible so It's not a deal breaker now, but it is less of a headache if you run into problems trying to get 3200 speeds to work on Ryzen. Your probably only going to get 2933, so don't be surprised if 3200 doesn't work.

If you are into gaming maybe you should switch your motherboard, cpu, and memory to intel, they are faster in gaming you know.

He already got the CPU and motherboard in the combo. Intel i7 8700k would gain a few FPS at higher resolutions, but its an extra $150 at least. Not worth it for 1080/2k gaming at the $1600 price point.
