wevsspot Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 For us Android junkies around here......... Some of you may have noticed if you have recently updated MX Player for your android device that it no longer plays AC3 audio when playing back a video file encoded with AC3 audio. Apparently there were some licensing problems and that resulted in the MXPlayer author having to remove AC3 support. Courtesy of the custom devs over at XDA there is a working solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254 I've used this codec on the last two releases of MX Player and it works well (both on Kit Kat and Lollipop). IVIYTH0S Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Why not just use VLC?
wevsspot Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 The last time I checked VLC was still in BETA for Android devices and I've been using MX Player for years. The only thing that came up lacking lately was the AC3 codec support. With that being said since I'm an Android junkie (we're all the same just different) I continue to use MXP. Each to their own though.

Ah, I don't really watch much video on my phone (my only Android device) so I wouldn't know if VLC could play AC3 encoded media but they've never failed me on the PC platform. Maybe if you get a chance give it a shot,as I don't think I have any media I can think of quickly sporting the AC3 codec to try.
