Running 8 Hard Drives?

Recommended Posts

I know that I need a RAID setup to run this but my dad and I are going to try to build a kind of music server to attach to a stereo and we are going to use wavs for uncompressed music and better quality, and so we obviously need huge amounts of hard drive space. I am using a motherboard with onboard RAID so that is not a problem, but how do you connect more than 2 IDE devices to a cable? I have dual cables so that is fine...Do I just connect multiple cables so that it multiplies out to 8 places for IDE devices (Using dual cables that have 2 dual cables attached to them and so on)?

No, thats not how it works.

You can only have 2 devices per IDE channel (master & slave)

Most raid cards have 2 IDE channels (4 devices)

I think there is one ABIT board with Raid that has 4 channels (8 devices)
