Jklein Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I have a hp pavillion g7 2240-us and the laptop fan is constantly loud because it comes on a lot I have cleaned out th dust twice and it will stop for awhile but statrts whirring constantly so I was thinking of replacing the stock fan with thishttp://www.censuspc.com/Dynatron-i2-Intel-Socket-G-PGA988-Copper-Heatsink-1U-and-Up-Server-CPU.html would it cool better than the stock fan and also would it be able to sufficiently cool a 45 watt rpga988 or would I still want to stick with a 35 watt when I upgrade my processor? tazwegion Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 If your fan sounds uncharacteristically loud/noisy it could be on it's way out, it has been my albeit brief experience that laptops considering their space/design tolerances require you use an identical replacement unit. How are your temps?
Jklein Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 5 degrees below max when I use the intel diagnostic tool
Lackadaisical Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Have you tried replacing the thermal paste? Typically a lot of laptops are shipped with really terrible thermal paste, and redoing that can have quite an impact on temps.
