  1. wardog, I am not overclocking at all. As for the BIOS, it is 632-3, which thus far seems to the most stable. I have seen people talking about HT and HTT before, but I haven't seen any settings in the BIOS at all that seem to deal with them. Where do I adjust HT and HTT? What settings should they be at? -Verxion
  2. I tried each of the settings given by LithoTech, to no avail. I usually fail on double super pi within 2 loops, regardless of which of those settings I tried. wardog, I tried the settings from OCZ's support page as well. I really REALLY need to up the voltage from 2.6 or it just doesn't run well. It fails within a few seconds at 2.6 volts, but at 2.8 it runs through to 10 or so loops before failing on superpi. -Verxion
  3. I just tried the 704-2BTA, it was considerably worse, so I am switching my BIOS back. -Verxion
  4. I tried booting tmod's CD and I get: Start booting from CD... Error loading image: DEFAULT.EZB I think this is some issue with the BIOS. This very same CD loaded no issue on the same computer when I switched from the "factory BIOS". I am gonna have to dig up a floppy drive and then the more difficult thing - a floppy disk. -Verxion
  5. Ok, this time I got to loop 4 before Super PI died ( NOT EXACT IN ROUND ). -Verxion
  6. wardog, I am running one of my 2gb kits with my "old" 3800+ X2, and the other 2gb kit with this Opteron 185. Every single other thing about the two computers is 100% identical. Would you still make the same recommendation on the BIOS's considering that I am intending to run just 2gb in this system? -Verxion
  7. Ok, to clarify, I am running only 2 1gb sticks at this time. I am having trouble getting them to run stable just those two. I tried the settings in that image linked earlier in this thread, it did better, but still crashed super pi. I upped my voltage to 2.8 volts for the DRAM from 2.6 volts, and that seemed to help quite a bit. Anyone have some specific recommendation on the voltage I should run the memory at? Thanks, -Verxion
  8. Hello everyone! I have an Opteron 185 plugged into a Lanparty NF4 UD. It boots up and runs windows fine on stock settings. What I am currently having issues with, however, is running stable for prime95 and superpi. I tried changing to 2T, didn't help. I am running memtest86 now, but thought I would ask if anyone has suggestions. Thanks, -Verxion
  9. The BIOS finds the hard disk. The hard disk has an old windows installation on it which begins booting and then reboots the computer. If I let that happen then the next bootup, the menu comes up asking if I want to boot to safe mode. So I believe the SATA ports are properly enabled and that the hard disk is working at SOME level anyway. -Verxion
  10. So I have a brand new FDI nF4 Ultra-D motherboard and I am trying to install windows XP onto the computer. Oddly, I get the following message: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer." I don't remember ever needing to install SATA drivers when installing XP onto my other computer. . . . BIOS appears to be 04/06/2006-NF-CK804-6A61FD49C-00 Is it a borked BIOS? I think I will try a couple other BIOS's. -Verxion
  11. Praz, That makes sense. As it turns out though, all I am really after in the first place is stock settings. I am far more interested in stability than I am in overclocking. Unfortunately, what I found out with my 3800+ X2 is that in DFI land there is no such THING as "stock settings". No one could ever give me a 4x1gb stock setting that would work. And there didn't seem to be a true "stock setting" for just the two 1gb sticks either. I figured since Angry Games doesn't support the "supported" stuff I would go ahead and buy the less expensive "unsupported" Opteron cpu since I wouldn't be missing out on anything in the first place. So thanks for the information. I ordered the cpu and so I should know in a week or so how it fares. Wish me luck! -Verxion
  12. Praz, Thanks for the quick reply. Is there anywhere that talks a bit about what sort of differences there are in the memory controller? I would THINK that a server CPU would be optimized for large amounts of memory, that is why I was hopeful that it would work with four sticks. I don't mind running at stock speeds - in fact, that is my sincere hope, and the reason I am buying a 185 instead of a 165 or 170 - I would prefer to not have to deal with overclocking. -Verxion
  13. Just wanting to confirm that these two play nice together. I would also like to know if the memory controller in the Opteron 185 might be good enough to run with 4 1gb sticks (my current 3800+ X2 is NOT good enough). Thanks, -Verxion
  14. My posts were in this very thread. You began helping me but then you never came back. Some other kind souls jumped in, but I never got it resolved. My memory is actually PC3200 and that is the issue - the stock speed database has entries for 4xPC4000 but -*NOT*- for 4xPC3200. So as a result, I didn't have a good baseline to even start with. -Verxion
