Lan Party UT Ultra - D - Lower PCIe slot

Recommended Posts

I ran a few applications in the current (lower) PCI-E slot and I got the following

results:

Far Cry bench: average ~47 FPS

Doom3 (timedemo1): average ~ 62 FPS

3DMark05: 3378 points

Then I swiched to to upper PCI-E slot. Results:

Far Cry bench: average ~59 FPS

Doom3 (timedemo1): average ~ 72 FPS

3DMark05: 4162 points

So the first video slot is x16 and the second is only x2 (this can also be seen in the

Forceware drivers). There goes my wish to install ThermalRight NB-1 cooler  .

Guest scott

On my mobo the upper 16X slot has always seemed to be dead. Irt never worked.

My single, non-sli video card doesn't give any output in the upper slot.

The video card works in the lower slot.

Am I loosing performance? It's a 1-card, non-SLI setup.

Is a problem like that most likely a jumper setting problem, or a board problem?

Anyone have an idea?

Dude, me too. My upper slot (labeled PCIx slot 1) is dead. In fact, if I put my 7800 GTX in it, my sys won't even post. What do you think, bad boards?

. . . wait. It's not dead. I put another card in (older model, 128 MB RAM, no name card), and everything boots just fine. Hmmm .. . what does it mean?
