red930 Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 A little clarity might help us figure out whats going on. The BIOS load screen says SLI when you boot right? If so that means the board is capable of running in SLI mode. If the BIOS load screen no longer shows SLI you will need to perform the mod again since the two contact points are no longer connected. Pencil lead is not a very long lasting mod in certian situations. hell-o so i have mod board shows sli in postafter adding 2nd card it now posts nf4 standard any thoughts
red930 Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 NO! You have to perform the mod to enable SLI in the chipset before you can run SLI. The change in the drivers allows the two cards to perform in SLI without the bridge. Since more data is passing through the PCIe slots it does take a performance hit versus using the bridge. Does this mean we can run SLI on the Ultra-D without modding it to SLI?
garybig Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 clarify my middle name haha so i did have my board modded to sli for a few weeks now. as soon as i put in the 2nd board in it went to nf4 standard now after roodies post i pulled out the 2nd card and still says standard so looks like ill be taking it all apart again. thanks

Krid Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 What I want to know is "Will this Crossfire technology allow me to finally put my old cards to use?" I'd love to be able to daisy-chain my old ATI cards together - Rage 128 -> Rage 128 Pro -> 8500 -> 9600XT... redid the mod three times in the past 2.5 hours and its just not holding i guess ill get a pen tomorrow and try that. gary If you're feeling dangerous, use solder. audioaficionado Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 I got a 15w Radio Shack iron for doing SMD mods. That should work. Once you scrape through that clear coating, your warrenty is void anyway and DFI can surely tell if that coating has been tampered with. Might as well go whole hog and just solder it. garybig Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 im wondering about this problem. i have now redone this mod 7 times in two days. this is a very elimentary one on modding scales. it did say sli in post . installed the new nvidia drivers turned iff putr install 2nd vidio card and now my board says nf4 standard. when roadie said this sometimes happens with grafite i aggree. . i can see the pads glisen in the sunlite but still no sli. pray for me i think ill have a rum & not think about it more tonight thanks gary
garybig Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 tried this mod again still posting nf4 standard im a retired electronic tech from a major ic fab so these kinds of things are not new to me im still not sure why this worked till i installed the second v card and is now disfunctional is there any possible reason other than the obvious poor contact issue thanks
