I'm going to help you out by giving you a starting point in your overclocking adventure. Try these settings. You may need to change the strap because A is the tightest (266) but it also yields the closest RAM speed to that specified by the mfg.

Thanks so much for that wevsspot, that's a lot of effort... apparently in vain. Passes the stat test, then reboots itself after memory test and keeps all settings except CPU host frequency (or FSB). Is my memory faulty?

Sorry for late reply, watched some footy.

 

One area of concern, my CPU and GPU are both not showing up in CPUID now.

 

Would you be able to explain what you've done with these settings? I can't have an overclock without knowing how it was achieved, that would be cheating...

 

You don't have to delay dinner due to me, lol. Perhaps you're as excited as I am.

what version of cpuz are you running?

 

mine works fine with version 1.43

 

we aren't totally out of the woods yet, since using the 2.00b divider and strap is running your memory very underclocked.

 

another way to go about this is to reduce your cpu multiplier and up your fsb.

 

try this;

 

change cpu multiplier to 8

leave memory on 2.00b divider and strap

change your fsb to 475

 

this will also yield a cpu clock of 3.8ghz and your RAM should now be running at 950mhz

 

you may have to bump up a couple of your voltages by one or two notches.

 

here would be my recommended starting points - start here and reduce one increment at a time until system becomes unstable.

 

PCI-E Overvoltage Control - .20

FSB Overvoltage Control - .20

(G) MCH Overvoltage Control - .150

CPU-Z is working fine, CPUID (temperature monitoring) isn't.

 

This is a lot of work mate, I appreciate you going through this with me but it's bed time now. Pick this up tomorrow? I know it's a drag but it's all work, sleep and the girlfriend is coming over to bother me tonight (bed time is around midday, graveyard shift.)

Morning!

 

I used your new FSB and multiplier, got the voltages to .10 .10 and .100, which I think is an okay amount. I might lower them in future. prime95'd it for a couple of minutes, don't dare doing it for longer until my heatsink is installed. Temps seemed fine (with a low ambient temp) and no errors recorded.

Sabmac,

 

Please please please tell me that you have some sort of heatsink sitting on top of your processor, even if it's only the factory one.

LOL yes of course, factory heatsink. I've ordered a Tuniq Tower (it was on special) so I don't want to stress the orig heatsink too badly until I have that one installed.

Ah good. You know me, the only dumb question is the one that never gets asked. The Tuniq Tower is a very nice air cooling solution.

 

The overclocks I've started you with are pretty mild. There is probably quite a bit more left in both your processor and memory if you want to push it that far.

 

Smart to wait on the good cooler though.
