some1uknow Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Hey Everyone, I have an amd64 3000+ Venice 939. My mobo is GA-K8NF-9 and I have two sticks of DDR400 ram (512mbs). I have tried all sorts of different combinations to put the sticks in different slots and whatever i do it always ends up as a single 64 bit channel. Could you pelase give out some tips on how to fix this problem. Both sticks of ram are the same but are different brands and one is single sided, I am not sure if thats the problem. I have also upgraded to BIO v F10 because several people mentioned that it fixed the problem for them. Unlikely it didnt fix it for me . I am also sure that my mobo supports dual channel because its writen on the box. Please help me out . I am stuck after reading a hell lot of info on dual channels. Also read the guide for my mobo and no luck so far Thank you.
Guest ecthlipsis Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Did you look for an option in the BIOS to enable it like I mentioned? It really should just activate automatically once the sticks are in the right spot, but just to make sure. Also, what program is telling you it's in single channel? CPU-Z is a great program for finding out (under memory tab).
some1uknow Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Ye there is no option. And CPU-Z tells me that its single channel. And also when i start the computer the bios tell me that Its a 64bit single channel. Thank you.
Guest ecthlipsis Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 In regards to the timings, they are set in the BIOS. I don't know what good timings for those sticks would be, but probably something like 2-3-3-5. Actually, I think hardnrg listed a full spectrum of timings (other thread). Go to your BIOS and enter those manually and see what happens. Because you already mentioned updating the BIOS and the voltage doesn't seem to be the problem, I really don't have any other ideas. You said that other people with that board were experiencing the same problem? This definitely isn't a common one. Perhaps contact the motherboard manufacturer or do a bit more browsing around in those forums. This isn't a problem that is going to have a well known fix, as it appears to be very motherboard specific. Good luck.
Guest ajmatson Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I had the same problem with "Value Ram" or off brand that were not by the same manufacturer. They would not go Dual Channel for nothing. Then I bought a 1GB matched set from Patriot and walla it worked. I guess some boards are picky like that.....
Guest ecthlipsis Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 ^^^^^^^ I guess that could be the problem. While I didn't think that would happen, that's about the only option left that I can think of. If you're serious about performance, you could really use an upgrade anyway, so when and if you do make sure you pick up a matching kit. And no more value ram for you... even the quality stuff is dirt cheap these days =D Good luck, sorry we couldn't be of more help so far. SMeeD Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Both sticks of ram are the same but are different brands and one is single sided, I am not sure if thats the problem. My first guess as to why it isnt working.
GameGuru1 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Both sticks of ram are the same but are different brands and one is single sided So they're not quite the same That's probably why it's not working for you, I've only had matched pairs run in dual channel without causing a fuss. You need two sticks of ram with the same number and size of chips on each stick.
