asus Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 My ubuntu crapped out on an update, its rendered the system un-bootable. i can chroot into the drive ,so my question is. how do i get my database information so i can reinstall the OS again and get my server back up? kingdingeling Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 do you have different HDDs of OS and your storage? easiest thing would be to rip out the HDDs and plug em into another rig with XP or Ubuntu or whatever to save your files. gotdamojo06 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 unless ubuntu "locks" the files like windows does when it crashes and your files are saved under your user name, you dont have permission...hopefully its not the same way with ubuntu
asus Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I actually fixed it using chroot, then starting apache2 and mysql-safemode. Then it allowed me to backup my database from there and i just tar'ed the files to maintain the permissions. And if you know, permissions dont matter when your root. Thanks though
