CheeseMan42 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I just swapped out the Ultra D and opteron 148 on my main rig, and tried to install a fresh OS. I tried both Windows XP and Ubuntu and it freezes part way through the installation process everytime. Any idea what is going on? cchalogamer Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Once you answer bigred's more important question, (though I assume Opty 170 for the CPU based on sig). Have you tried a repair install? did Ubuntu boot, then have problems in the install process or did it refuse to boot from the CD? CheeseMan42 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 opteron 170 and sli-dr expert. it will boot from the cd drive, but will freeze randomly at some point in the install process. i did not try a repair install EDIT: Went over to DFI-Street, they knew what was wrong within about 10 minutes.
