bigred, I am in a similar situation right now with my fiance's father. There have been many times I would like to step in and put him in his place, but my fiance doesn't want me to. Why she doesn't I don't know. Her father is a drunk and has her entire family terrified of him. Again I don't know why because I doubt he even weights 180lbs. He doesn't do much hitting and mostly just threatens everyone to scare them. I want to teach him a lesson, but I am afraid it would put a lot of strain on my relationship with my fiance if I did. My fiance has told me that he doesn't mess with her as much as the rest of the family since she started dating me. This is probably due to the fact I intimidate most everybody and since he isn't that big to begin with he has every reason to be intimidated. I just don't know what to do.
