Damm, I knew I shoulda kept my Network + book with me. Yea its Simple mail transfer protocal, theres also a different form of this, It has one extra letter in front of it. SMPT uses TCP on port 25. Works on Layer 7 of the OSI model (Application).

 

And for those curious theres 7 Layers in the OSI model.

Hotmail, yahoo mail anything that sends out mail. And now we know what it means when they say a virus/trojan has its on SMTP engine.
