hamiltonm Posted April 25, 2002 Posted April 25, 2002 Hey all, Has anyone run into this problem? I have an XP Pro box acting as a server to a Win98 box and Win98 laptop. The 98 machines can see and communicate to each other, but if I try to connect to the XP box, from either machine, I get the error; Drive is not accessible. Not enough memory is available. Quit some programs. All the machines have 512 megs of memory and this happens with nothing else running. Any ideas?
cypher Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 I dont know much about networking.....but have you set up the XP server as a dedicated server.......and have you assigned IP address's for the other computers???
d3bruts1d Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Need a little more info.... Are the computers hooked up to a router or a hub? Static or DHCP IP addresses? TCP/IP installed? Can the XP box ping the 98 PCs? Can the 98 boxes ping the XP box? Firewall enabled on the XP system? 98 systems? NTFS or FAT32 on the XP system? Can you see the 98/XP PCs in Network Neighbrohood? Clean installs of 98 or upgrade from 95? 3.x? DOS?
RaTeD-R Posted June 2, 2002 Posted June 2, 2002 I was reading some article in PC Magazine's latest issue and I remember a breif mention to the fact that 2 XP computers can't see each other on a network with the default windows settings. Or something like that . I have no idea how to fix the problem, I just remember hearing about it. The article never supplied a remedy. Its possible, the answers out there somewhere, good luck finding it.

Eon_Blue_Apocalypse Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 another problem is having a third party firewall. norton especially. if you do then try black ice. but first, take it off completely and try pinging all of the machines. what are your settings? that's what we really need to troubleshoot it.
