There is no System sub key under policies only Explorer

I've never done it though the registry, but in the group policy editor

run>gpedit.msc

524966[/snapback]

returns error, check to make sure you spelled name correctly.

Edit: posting from computer that has this problem, its had 100 spyware and 10 viruses mostly trojans. I tried repair but always took me to recovery console and asked for admin password, which i don't know and I didn't know what to do from there.

If you are trying to do a repair install, don't go to the repair console. proceed as if it's a new install until windows setup searches, and the finds previous windows install, then select repair.

so say install new, do not hit R?

Ill try tommorow, erm today, uh when I wake up next.

Edit:

I did a repair, but the disc decided to install, I didn't see this commming I shoulda it didn't reformat the version was SP1 on computer and disc was SP2, so it saw it as me trying to upgrade, so long story short he has a computer of XP home sp2, I got ride of all viruses and spyware and task manager is now working, got it down was 60 processes to 29. and he will now use computer as storage for music and pictures.

I fixed a labtop of his too, it had 65 running processes, 12 viruses, and 356 spyware.

I don't see how people deal with the slowness.
