hiph0pan0nym0usx Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 when i turn on i get a boot screen which says: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows Recovery Console Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup it was normal to just get Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows Recovery Console becuase i changed the start button, but know i get the - Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup - which it will boot to unless i press the up button and choose windows xp. i want to get rid of the xp pro setup, so i was wondering if i went into my boot.ini file and just deleted C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup" would it get rid of the setup and boot to xp automatically? p.s. this is the current boot.ini file. [boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup" p.p.s. this started becus i put in the windows xp cd and wanted to see if it would still work (it had scratches) apparently i forgot to do something when i stopped the setup. Acid Storm Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 if I understand correctly you might want to look in system at startup and recovery or something like that. I would recommend running the setup and cancel it so you can get rid of the temporary files.
