Fans Malfuntioning - General Question

I have a very general fan question. I've replaced the cpu fan 3 times (I'm on the 4th one now) over the course of a year, maybe a bit longer. The fans I have been using are the basic ones you can pick up at BB. The computer is inside a desk cabinet, with the door kept open.

 

Is this the normal life expectancy for a generic cpu fan, or could something else such as the power supply be contributing to the fan malfuntioning?

Fans should last quite a bit longer than that... I don't think it is related to the juice they are getting... Perhaps it's just a bad brand? I'd suggest buying something that is known to be reliable... Something like this maybe:

All my case fans have lasted over a year so far, and over 5 years in my old gateway.

Fan's should last plenty long, unless they are getting way to much voltage to them.

i have used fans that i pulled out old psu's that powered 386's.....which are like 25mhz processors. and they worked great.....the life expectancy for most 80mm fans are about 50,000 hours of run time.

fans usually last 50,000 hours some newer fans last 80,000 hours.

er... get a decent fan for the cpu then? as in, not a generic p.o.s.
