Advice For Those Upgrading For Hl2

i recently had the chance to test and thoroughally bench one of the new 6xxx series video cards, it was fun, first time i have used a dx9 capable card, details were great

but i wanted to share my results somewhat

i kept noticing the same relative numbers coming up, benching with bench 'em all using doom3, halo, call of duty, far cry, and ut2004 as well as 3dmark 03 and 05 and aquamark03, not to mention the cs source stress test

after completing hours and hours of benchmarking and looking at the results, i decided to pop my ti4200 8x agp 64mb card back in, and my suspicions were realized, my ti4200 was scoring the same or slightly higher as the new card, same drivers, same detail settings, same quality settings, same resolutions, etc.......both video cards were tested in my rig in my sig

of cource the newer card was doing it in dx9 mode, not dx8.1, however, this basically only affected image quality, doom3 and halo scores were slightly higher on the new card, but only by 8-10 fps, not enough to call considerable

so for any of you dropping or thinking of dropping several hundred dollars in a new gpu, make sure the rest of your system doesn't bottleneck things first, i know most of you guys know this already, and most of you run much better rigs than my celery, but just thought it was worth sharing as it is based on hard facts, like these, just a sample of the bench 'em all results:

Yeah, that Celeron is the obvious weak spot in your system. If you had a P4, you'd see some real differences in those scores. I stuck a 9600XT in with my friends 2.6GHz Celeron and it's good, but no where near as good as it could be
