nobax Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Me have lit'l question. I have an Asus a7v8x-x and i've heard that Striping (Raid 0, i think) gives an huge speed boost. But my MoBo neither has SATA nor an Raid controller, is it worth buying an PCI Raid controller and a ATA -> SATA converter or two SATA HD's. If so, wich should i buy and should i buy two indentical HD's or doesnt it matter. By the way, i dont want to buy another MoBo, i just want to have the fastest Athlon XP. Vampire Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 I'd try upgrade other parts of your comp before even thinking about SATA RAID. Maybe try save a newer video card? I suggest (if you have the money) to slowly upgrade to an Athlon 64 system. They are really kicking . atm.
nobax Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Uh.. already thought of it... I'm having an 3000+ laying next to my monitor waiting for an Tornado 12, and im looking for an 6800GT, when they're available again (in the Netherlands) i'll get one. So.. is Raid 0 worth it and what should i get then?
ccokeman Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Yes it is . Access time is improved over just a single drive. Depends on what you are useing your computer for i guess. I did it and have been pleased with the results.

BiPolar Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Check this out by Anandtech and there are some more out there if you google it. I don't think its worth it, especially not with the increased chance for data loss (there is a greater chance that out of two hard drives, one will fail). darreljaeger83 Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 with my raid, i do see a nice increase in speed- however this nice thing is the massive amount of space that I have now.
