Linux_Box Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 You can't really stop your computer from picking up their wireless network. It is being shot into the air (wireless) and your wireless NIC is supposed to continually check for wireless. It is the way it's supposed to work (from talking directly with the engineers at Dell and Broadcom when working on issues at work). If you have an Atheros type card, they normally have a client that has an 'activate' option for picking which of the 'profiles' you want to use. They normally don't automatically pick one on their own (not all Atheros based cards are this way but the 6 I've tested were all that way). If it is a Broadcom based card, it should pick the best one for you. You can control it possibly if you have a good driver/interface utility. I never use "let windows control my wireless" or whatever the option says. The utility provided by the card maker almost always is a better choice. More options and more control.
