BloodySunday Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 I have never heard of people having much luck with refurb video cards. And I would look into a 6800 over a 9800 Pro since they perform much better at higher resolutions and I have seen them as cheap as $270. RADEON Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 that heat pipe dose o the job but with out a fan blowing on it and a fan filled system your case temps will rise dramatically and may affect your oc if youve got one, plus the heat sink is very heavy. my card was bending couse of it. on cards such as your 9600xt and 9600 pro that heat sink will do wonders but for card like the 9800 pro and nhigher i would say no.zalman dose have a new one out with 2 heat pipes and its lighter and its also blue buti havnt heard any thing about it yet.i would just get the regular 9800 pro and put a vga silencer on it. exeter_acres Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Hmmm....not really interested in going over $200.... seems excessive to me.... But it is a good idea... I have bought much refurb and never had a prob.... Hmmmmm' always a risk though
InvaderTrax Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 I love refurbs. I'm on a pretty good streak with them so far. Anyway, out of the two, I'd suggest the regular cooled one and put one of those new ATi Silencers on it. The problem with fanless heat pipes is that they really increase your case temps, and ultimately your CPU temps. The new ATi Silencer is like the VGA Silencer Rev 3, but has a copper base and aluminum fins instead of all aluminum. It's $10 more at newegg, but looks like a nice piece of hardware
