10base2

I've been soooo lazy lately... running PC's (modems) in a daisy chain, thought I might put some old NIC's I had to good use, not having a hub/switch lying around I thought a peer-to-peer network would be the way to go...

But I didn't have a cross-over Rj45 handy :(

I had a couple of BNC's and some 50 Ohm coaxial though, so off I went with that... some 'networking tutorials' later and the systems could only see themselves on the network, which brings me to my question...

Does 10Base2 require the BNC T connectors/terminators to operate? (I was attempting to use direct BNC/cable/BNC NIC-to-NIC) <_<

Any advice would be most welcome ;)

Thanks for the reply guys... thankfully the BNC T's & 50Ohm terminators are quite plentyful here @ $8.00 for the pair (could have bought a crossover RJ45 for that...)

Thank heaven's for Dick Smith Electronics :P

EDIT: Apparently each end of the cable requires a 50 Ohm load to maintain 'crash detection' & 50 Ohm line resistence

So it's all up and running (my Retro 'bus' LAN :P)... including ICS (no more waiting for 'PC time') :D

Thanks Red & Demon! ;)

I though I'd include my reference links (for future prosperity)...
