ashilnayak2 Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) My brother bought used gpu and when he’s not doing anything gpu is at 75 degrees. When he’s in the game its at 90 degrees and PC sometimes turn off. We set up settings so that gpu runs at 80 degrees max but fans are running at 4000rpm and it’s loud. Should we reapply thermal paste or return the gpu? Or is that normal temperature for that gpu?usps tracking showbox speed test Edited June 7, 2020 by ashilnayak2
ir_cow Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Is this 75 Celsius or Farenheit? The Radeon RX 470 is part of the Polaris GPU family and they are toasty little GPUs. But since the computer turns off, I assume its 90c, which is a bit high. Given the fact that to get it to drop to 80c you need to max out the fans, I am going to say that either the heatsink isn't making full contact or the thermal paste has completely gone bad. That RX 470 should be around 75-80C under heavy load, not idle. My guess is 90c is the throttling point.
