Guest_Jim_* Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Today it was announced that NVIDIA will be purchasing Mellanox for $6.9 billion. Mellanox is an Israeli company that specializes in interconnects and pioneered the InfiniBand interconnect technology, and this with its high-speed Ethernet products can be found in many of the world's fastest supercomputers and hyperscale datacenters. The goal of this acquisition is to allow NVIDIA to be able to optimize datacenter-scale workloads across the computing, networking, and storage stack to improve performance and achieve better utilization, ultimately reducing operating costs. As the use of datacenters increases to serve users, process data, and power AI, NVIDA believes holistic architectures will be necessary to meet the growing demand.
