VolcomPimp Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 found an adaptec scsi card for my jaz drive at my friends today (his house is like a computer hardware dumb), so I finally got my jaz drive workin.. it was being a little . at first crashin my system when I selected files on this one disk but its not anymore... Anyone know why these things went out of style so quik and didn't make it big??? they are pretty cool cause they are like portable hard drives, though they only store a gig (2gigs if you have the 2gig jaz drive) also the scsi card has one other port on it which doesnt look like scsi to me, more like IDE... anyone know what it's for??? it sorta looks like the connector I used to use for my old old cd-rom on my 120mhz crap-box a long time ago which I think was scsi... if anyone knows exactly what it's used please let me know... d3bruts1d Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 There are several different types of SCSI... IMO Jazz drives are slow, and expensive. Plus, what good are they when you have 20 computers, and only 1 has a Jazz drive? If I want to write something to a removeable media, I'll use a CD... if I want to back up my systems, I'll get a real back up system, like an Exabyte which will back up 240GB to 1TB. Jazz drives are nothing more than a Zip disk... and a Zip disk is nothing more than a floppy. All of which are useless anymore. VolcomPimp Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 Oh well... I use them to get rid of movies off my hd and stuff.... don't really feel like burnin movies to cd, but if I ever get the time or a faster burner I probly will.... I do admit the media is very expensive... I looked on Iomega.com and they don't even sell the drives anymore but the disks are still $99 a piece... it's insane... I'd rather go buy an 80gig hd at fry's for like $10 more....
DevilMB3017 Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 They went out because they are slow, and because the media (Jaz Disks) got exspensive. Plus, IOMega had ad problems and some money issues (My uncle used to be the head of human resources for them, no lie). Well, a lot of money problems. Plus, everyone has a CD-Rom, so I can burn a CD-RW, so its rewritable like the Jaz disks, and take them ANYWHERE, not everyone got a Jaz Drive.
