overclocking AMD 550 BE

Recommended Posts

well, i'm still the proud owner of the first edition of AMD 550 BE

but since then i've forgotten how to OC the thing, only thing i remember is going to the BIOS and increase its voltage... is that right?

my question is,

1. how does a noob like me do the OC thing again from scratch?

2. what do i watch out for?

3. by increasing the voltage, i get each core boost?

sorry guys, i've been out of the loop too long, but i do appreciate any help!

Hey there, as you can see I run the same cpu, what mb do you have?
If it's asus it should have acc to unlock the cores, if it's gigabyte it also has something to do it just not sure of the name.
Make sure you have a good cpu cooler to keep temps down , if you don't , do not oc too high.
You will get a better oc with just 2 cores. Easiest way to do it is to use the multy, Stock is 15.5 so just raise it .5 at a time.
If I were you I'd start cpu volts at 1.4 and would not pass 1.5 .
Make sure you have a temp monitor installed and use it. Disable c&q or whatever it's called on your mb.
You have to give better specs of your rig before I can give you more advice.
I've had mine to 3.9 ghz on 2 cores and 3.8 on 4 cores. I run 3.6 ghz 24/7 on 4 cores.
Have fun

Edit, don't know why this damm post has so many<> and other letters I didn't type.???

Edit 2> My temps are 35 to 40c @idle and abour 52 to 55c running prime, max on these cpu's is 70c but I have never been over 62c. It's been running strong at 3.6 for 2 yrs now.

heya Spike,

ya i noticed alot of <> too, annoying... kinda hard to read >' '<

ya i have a good cooler, its the top notch cooler, but it'll do just fine!~ and i have a gigabyte MB, and i think i know the software u're talking about, but i think i'll just go into BIOS to change it myself, seems better that way

know of any good temp monitor that works with WIN7pro ?

i'll go home and post my rig once i get that CPUZ installed

thanks slick2500, but i'm not looking to unlock the cores, i'm just wanting to speed up the cores

i googled for images with "x2 550 cpuz" on Google, and found some of the people have different multiplier counts, how and where do i modify that..?? (sorry, i'm a freaking noob again)

just wanna say thanks!

funny thing is, i went into BIOS and changed the voltage to the CPU, and that's all i did! , i didn't know it was that simple!! (has been a while since i OCed)

now my CPU is OCed again, and running at 3.1GHz core speed!

=)

running stable at 1.34v atm

Hey there Droom 3.1 is stock for that cpu, if you want to up it a bit just bump the cpu volts up to 1.40 and raise the multy to 17, will give you a nice safe oc of 3400 mhz, just remember to watch your temps.
