i7-870 Overclock with x24 Multiplier?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It seems that most people over-clock this i7-870 with the multiplier set to x21 or x22, and I'm just wondering why only a few use x24? Is there any particular reason against using x24?

Thanks so much in advance!

A higher FSB is preferred compared to high multi. It gives better performance overall, and can let you overclock your RAM more easily.

Thanks for the reply. So does it mean that if I am just looking for a slight over-clock, such as 150 x 24=3.60GHz, and not looking to really over-clock RAM higher, using x24 is a safe choice? Coz' doing 150 x 24 seems to work great even with stock voltage.
