artic silver 5 or zalman zm-stg2m

well i have 20 or so grams of artic silver 5, and when i recived my zalman performa, i also got 3.5grams of zm-stg2m

 

both from what i read are great pastes (however cant find much in reviews for the zalman paste)

 

dont know what one to use, im leaning to the zalman as i get its not as thick so it spreads easier and thiner

 

im using an i7 920 and the performa, both have been lapped, so less paste the better

Well I have a i7 930 using the Zalman compound and the results are good (3.44 GHz 35 C idle / 65 C max temperature (on one core) with 15 hours of Prime95) and it's warm here during the day (at night temperatures can drop to 30 idle, load (Prime95) 58-65 C)

 

In games highest I've seen is 55 C on core #1 in GTA IV (for some reason core 1 and 3 are hot heads xD)

do you know if the zalman is thinner, easier to spread? the artic isnt that easy to spread

I find as5 will spread well using my finger..I just put the old 1/2 a pea size and spread it to cover the cpu then add heatsink it seams to work the best for me on my amd sytems ..On any Intel I don't spread it and works better than spreading it

ill try spreading with a finger, i usually use a plastic card
