jwv1963 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) I was wondering if someone could tell me if it's at all possible to overclock a dell studio xps with an i7 860 processor and an ati HD 5570? cirro Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) you can basically OC any computer that has the option via bios the problem is, when you get a computer like from dell/gateway/whoever your going to get a OEM Cpu fan. while that might keep it cool it is really only meant for STOCK settings. you can try to bump up your cpu a little bit, but be VERY careful for your temps. get a $30 cpufan and it a whole new story however my friend you are more likely toget better results from trying to OC your videocard. modern videocards have options from software that easily can change GPU/GPUMEM speeds, fan control and in some situations even voltage adjustments. crank your videocards fan to 100% and slowly raise the GPU clock up! jwv1963 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Thanks Cirro, I'll look into OC ing the GPU, but if I were to OC the CPU a little how would I do it without the options in the bios?
cirro Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 depending on the chip you use, you can flash a modified bios in certain situations to change its programmed preset settings
jwv1963 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Where would I find the update to flash the bios, motherboard manufacture site or Dell?
cirro Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 i don't recommend that for novice users. you can brick a motherboard really quick plus it most likely would void a warranty have you tried to get into you bios before and see what options you have in there? jwv1963 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Yea, all there is are options to enable/ disable hyperthreading, etc
OwinC Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Sorry to tell you this. No you are not able to overclock your processor. But you should be able to overclock your graphics card with MSI AFTERBURNER. Then do some stress testing with 3Dmark06, and MarkVantage. You can download them for free.
