Overclocking 920(Need help)

Recommended Posts

First off, before I get attacked, YES I AM A NEWBIE to overclocking.

My current system consists of the following:

intel 920

Asus p6t Deluxe v2

Asus 5850 Video

Corsair Dominator GT 6gb 1600

Corsair HX1000w power supply

Cooler Master V8 cpu cooler

Cooler master haf 932 case

Masscool hd coolers (2)

I currently have this system running at default. I would like to overclock it just a bit, because I'd like to maintain this system for a while without frying it.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the processor @ about 3.00

Also, does anyone know of any lcd temperature gauges for cpus that I could put in one of my bays?

The simplest way is to use the AI Tweaker and TurboV software that came with your motherboard... have you tried that? It is pretty bulletproof as far as protecting you from blowing anything up...

I have. Im assuming, and maybe I'm wrong, that if I could manually clock the chip at about 3.00 then using these tools could further speed up my system(safely).

They can get you close but not all the way to the promised land. They have good functionality but manually tweaking the bios works best. You can get 3.0 by just upping the bclock to 150 and doing nothing else. Every 920 i have used will do that speed with no voltage increase. That board is easy to clock with but your cooling while nice is not the best solution for big clock speeds on a 920. Safe depends on the stepping(CO or DO Find this using CPUz) THe DO stepping usually run cooler with lower voltages. So that would be a starting point for you

Do you think my cooling is sufficient to get a 3.0 safe clock? Also, if I change the bclock to 150, should I disable the turbo, and do I need to change anything anywhere else?

Hi,

I have a Asus Gene II, currently running at 3.8 GHZ with very friendly temperatures and voltages. Ill leave you my Bios settings may, they may work as a guide. In my experience I will recommend the core Temps below 74 C.

With that case and cooler, you should be able to handle pretty decent temps.

Here are my BIOS settings for 3.8 GHZ.
