motherboard heatpipe cooling

i and probably a few others out there have a motherboard with heatpipes and heatsinks..

Here is mine

now i know the way heatsinks work is by the heat turning the liquid into gas then it raises up the pipes to the heatsinks where it cools back to liquid and runs down etc etc.

 

Now my question is would it make a difference what way up you positioned your motherboard as you can get cases where the motherboard is the other way up

and i was thinking that surely if you put any motherboard with heatsink only cooling in that way up you are gonna heat up your chipsets.

if it doesnt really affect it, would mounting the motherboard in any orientation matter much?? left, right right way up or upside down? thanx

My motherboard had the same heat pipe arrangement.

The only guess I have is it would more or less distribute the heat more evenly across the heatsinks.

Most current heatpipes use a wick and capillary action to move the fluid in the pipe.

The same action occurs if you leave a wash cloth laying on a counter with the end hanging in

a sink full of water, you'll soon have a puddle of water on your countertop. In the case of a heat pipe,

the evaporated fluid moves to a cooler part of the heatpipe where it condenses. The fluid is then pulled

by capillary action to the area of less fluid, the area of the heatpipe where evaporation is taking place.

the orentation of your board has no impact, or minimal impact on the function of the heatpipe.
