I am new to the Lynfeild setups I was going to build an AMD system but have changed my mind.

Was going to use the CM V8 air cooler but there is no info on mounting for 1156.

any help on whether this will work or not and or other cooling options would be great.

thanks

I built an i5 rig about 2 weeks ago. I am currently using the stock intel cooler, but I stripped off the thermal grease they pre-applied and used some Arctic Silver. I haven't overclocked anything (CPU or GPU) yet. But under full load, the cpu stays around 43-49 degrees. Granted, I have a Coolermaster HAF-922 with massive 200mm front intake and 200mm top exhaust fans. Also have a 120mm rear exhaust fan. I also spent some time on cable management to get the maximum airflow through the case to get rid of that heat.

Anyways, if you are going to overclock (which I may in the future), here are a couple of choices I've been looking into:

I emailed the guys from Thermalright and asked when the MUX-120 was going to be available. It looks like the best air cpu cooler that will be on the market for the 1156 socket. It has a nice solid piece of copper to contact the cpu. Unlike the Coolermaster 212 Plus, which just uses those 3 copper tubes that make contact. They didn't give me a price, but the ThermalRight rep told me mid October we would see it hit the shelves.

I've also been watching the Corsair H50 very closely, because they are going to release the support bracket for the 1156. Once they release that, I am going to wait and watch for a comparison between the MUX-120 and the H50. Efficient air vs. all-in-one liquid.

Good luck.
