Water Cooling

I currently have the EVGA 780i ftw running a q6600 and the 9800gtx, my processor is being cooled by the thermalright 1200 ultra extreme with 1x zalman 120mm fan on it. I am looking to upgrade to water cooling, i want to cool both my CPU and my GPU. I want to be able to overclock my CPU to about 4.2 GHZ and my GPU to about 842MHz/2106/1188 or maybe more. I have run my CPU at 4GHZ on air without overheating. The only problem is i need to set my core to 1.6v to get to 4GHZ. Does anyone have any suggestions on which water cooling system or seperate parts i should use.

Thanks!!

Here is what I came up with, I couldn't find a 9800gtx cooler and I don't know much about water cooling gpus so I left that alone.

Setup should go like this: Pumptop/res>pump>radiator>y >gpu on one side of the y and cpu on the other >y>back to pumptop/res

quick question, why would you watercool a 9800gtx now? The new DX11 cards are coming out so you could spend some more and upgrade to them or you could wait for prices to drop on 4000 and 200 series and upgrade to a 260 or 4890 or 275? my point being the amount you're paying does not make for a good return in performance. I can understand wanting your cpu to go faster though (though I don't think it is necessary, economical, or useful).

I have been looking at something like the Corsair H50 as there is no maintenance at it should give me a stable 4Ghz clock and i will also be able to run it with the i7 when i upgrade my CPU. I think waiting for the new DX11 cards would be a better bet.

I've never had one but based on reviews you might as well have a high end air cooler if you have that

The H50 would not cool both an overclocked CPU and GPU. You would be better off getting two high cfm fans for your TRUE120 and replacing the low cfm zalman with them in push/pull.

I think you would be just fine with a 120mm triple rad as long as its a good one. I would also go with some 1/2" id tubing instead of the 7/16. I used 7/16 tubing on my first WC setup and it seemed really hard to get over the fittings. I also chose a stronger pump. Im sure the swiftech pump chris chose would cut it but I have never used it so I listed the same one I have(has been running pretty much non stop for a year now). reservoir doesnt matter too much.. I would just pick one that is not hard to mount and that you like the look of.

I would go with something like this.

xspc rs360 rad

Swiftech mcp655-b water pump

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2128/ex-...?tl=g30c107s155

Heatkiller cpu rev3.0 775 water block

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/heatkillerlt775.html

xspc 5.25 bay reservoir

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6230/ex-...l?tl=g30c97s168

primochill primoflex flo 1/2"id tubing(about 10ft)

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7687/ex-...l?tl=g30c99s172

Scythe slip stream 120mmx25mm 1200rpm (x6 in push/pull)

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6445/fan...g36c15s60#blank

DD 9800gtx Water block

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7560/ex-...?tl=g30c311s794

@Chris What is the 40mm fan for?

I also agree with chris that watercooling the 9800gtx is a bit of a waist with how much the water block is. You might as well sell that card put that money with the money you would have spent on the water block and get a better video card

I'v been reading on forums and sites about the H50 and came across this http://ianho.blogspot.com/2009/08/corsair-h50-vs-true.html .The air cooler they have in the video the 120 ultra extreme against the H50. In the video the H50 seems to kill the 120 ultra extreme. So what do you guys things? is the increase in cooling power great enough so that i should rather buy the H50 or get 2x high power fans for my 120 ultra extreme?

I dont think the h50 would provide a big enough gain to switch from what you already have. maybe a 2c to 3c drop at most..

edit: here is a review guru3d did on the h50. page 6 compares the h50 to other coolers.
